The Central Coast Cancer Challenge is extremely happy to support the following two beneficiaries this year. Your participation in our event will help support the good works that these two organizations perform for cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Jack’s Helping Hand is a labor of love born from the pain of losing a child to cancer. The organization was established in 2005, after 3 year-old Jack Ready, son of Bridget and Paul Ready of San Luis Obispo, lost his battle with a rare form of brain cancer in 2004. During Jack’s life, the Ready’s discovered the unique needs of disabled children, learning how to facilitate physical, emotional and mental growth and development.

During the course of Jack’s treatments, the Readys realized that many families with disabled children needed assistance to meet their children’s special needs. Jack’s Helping Hand was created to serve the unmet need within the San Luis Obispo community for an organization to assist special children with unmet physical, mental and medical needs.

The Cancer WellFit Program was developed by a physical fitness expert in Santa Barbara as a way to recover from a battle with breast cancer. After months of chemotherapy and radiation, the body takes quite a beating. This 10-week program is a jump start to wellness. It was designed for small groups and the first-year cancer survivor. The program helps build/restore muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, improve energy levels and self-esteem and gives the tools for the survivor to continue their own fitness routine. The program, held at the Avila Bay Athletic Club and Spa, is free to the survivor. There is currently a wait-list and the Central Coast Cancer Challenge hopes to give much needed funds to make that wait-list history.
