The Central Coast Cancer Challenge is proud to announce the Damon Castillo Band as the event’s concert headliner!! The concert is supported by the City of San Luis Obispo, FREE, and open to the public. The band is scheduled to begin playing at noon.
When they are not touring, the Damon Castillo Band is home in San Luis Obispo, entertaining friends and loyal followers. They are one of the most popular bands on the central coast and always willing to give back to the community. Performing at the Central Coast Cancer Challenge is particularly special because of the band’s personal struggles with cancer. They lost their friend and the founding bassist, Matt Taylor to the disease 2002.
The Damon Castillo Band’s unique sound originated and continues to be heard from their quaint recording studio on Laurel Lane, a street just east of the downtown area. “Laurel Lane is more than a studio on a street near some old train tracks in the hills of San Luis Obispo, California,” says Castillo. “It is home. Strewn with vintage amps and tattered couches, it is the hearth that has beckoned, soothed, and housed the band through life’s many ups and downs.”
Castillo and his band also take great pride in the way they write and perform their music. They disregard genres or style lines, and concentrate on making music that “feels right”. They want their records to bring people back to the times when “artists played their own music in a studio and created songs that were enjoyable not only for their passion, but also for their honesty.” At every show, the Damon Castillo Band plays for music, for each other and for Matt but most importantly, they promise to never stop.
The Central Coast Cancer Challenge is honored to have the City of San Luis Obispo supporting the official concert as well as a supporter for the overall event.
“The Central Coast Cancer Challenge was designed to raise funds for cancer support services, but also to showcase this beautiful city,” says Heather Hellman, Event Director. “We want participants to come have fun, contribute to a wonderful cause and stay to take full advantage of the wonderful things the City of San Luis Obispo has to offer.”
